Be on your guard: always be on your guard when you are alone in an unknown place. Do not accept ride or a night’s stay from a stranger. Do not wear flashy jewelry or carry too much cash in your purse. Never open your purse in public places where curious eyes can have a look inside. Do not act too friendly with strangers which can give them wrong ideas about you.

Keep others in loop: wherever you are travelling, leave a travel plan with your family or a close friend. Keep them updated about your whereabouts. If you have to make any sudden changes in your plan, do inform others. Keep the front desk of the hotel informed if you are going out.

Be a part of the culture: if you are travelling to a country which has a different culture, then study the difference first. If the women of the country wear concealing clothes, you must not do exactly opposite. Do not wear clothes that make you stand out in a crowd. Be a part of the crowd, not different.

Have cash on you: always hide some cash in your shoes, in your pocket or other such concealing places. So that if you accidentally lose your purse, or if it is stolen, you will still have some cash with you to take a ride back to the hotel.

Keep emergency numbers handy: always try to keep emergency numbers with you, so that if such a situation arises, you can seek local police’s help. Some hotels have their own security services too. If possible, avail the service.

If you travel alone: if you are alone, there is some additional tips for you. In some countries, a lonely lady is taken to be easily available. Put a wedding ring(fake) in your finger. Never do an eye contact with an unknown man. In case you feel threatened inform the hotel management immediately and do not take a chance.

The world has opened up to women travelers. Many countries offer separate carriages in their trains for the lady travelers. Many hotels make specials arrangement for their lady guests. Extra care is taken to make you feel comfortable and some cities also ply cabs driven by women so that a lady feels safe and sound. Take precautions and you can have a fun filled travelling experience.
